• Wear, pollution and corrosion are main failure forms of equipment, among which wear failure accounts for 60% to 80%. Oil analysis technology can be used to monitor equipment performance changes and analyze oil abrasive particles in oil, and the information of mechanical lubrication and wear state can be obtained. so that the running state of mechanical equipment can be evaluated and predicted, and then the cause and form of failure can be determined.

Technology Principle

• The arc or spark generated by the discharge of the excitation system directly acts on the oil sample to be tested, and the outer electrons of the element are excited to generate characteristic spectral lines. The graphite disk electrode continuously rotates to bring the oil between the counter electrodes. There is a huge potential difference between the graphite disk electrode and the rod electrode. When the potential difference between the electrodes reaches the discharge state, a high voltage discharge occurs at the gap between the counter electrodes,generating an arc or spark, providing an instantaneous high temperature, which makes the oil sample on the disk electrode burn, and the oil sample will be burned, vaporized and plasma-ized. The instantaneous high temperature in the discharge gap, can fully excite various elements in the oil sample and produces many stable emission spectra. The spectral signal is flexibly introduced into the Roland circle spectroscopic system through the UV optical fiber.

• The optical system uses the grating on the Roland circle to collect and split the characteristic spectral lines of the excited elements (the larger the focal length is, the more grating lines are available; and the higher the resolution is, the better the spectroscopic effect will be); the detector receives and photo-electrically converts all characteristic spectral lines.

• The readout system periodically reads the charges on the detector and converts them to digital signals, including the intensity of the characteristic spectral lines of elements, because the intensity is proportional to the element concentration, the readout system uses the external standard method to analyze, process and output the data to obtain the content of the detected elements.

In 1941, the American Western Railway Company took the lead in using the atomic emission spectrometer. By analyzing the changes in the concentration of metal elements in the internal combustion engine oil, it can judge the process and working state of diesel engine wear and the cause of engine failure, which plays an important role in predicting the failure of engine parts.

Development History

In the 1980s

In the 1980s, oil monitoring technology became increasingly active. In particular, the US military equipped a large number of oil analysis spectrometers to continuously monitor mechanical equipment to ensure the safety and combat effectiveness of equipment. Oil analysis spectrometer manufacturers also got substantial development during this period.

At present, the application of oil analysis spectrometer has been popularized to aerospace, railway transportation, machinery and equipment, petrochemical, wind power, oil testing institutions and other fields.

Our company successfully developed the first commercial oil analysis spectrometer, filling the gap in this field. Unlike previous atomic emission spectrometers, this oil analysis spectrometer uses AC arc light source, does not need argon gas and sample pretreatment, Besides, it has the characteristics low cost, fast analysis and fast detection speed that it can complete dozens of elements detection within a minute of testing.
